Master of bronze sculpture: Emmanuel Villanis (1858-1914) was an Italian-French Art Nouveau sculptor. He was born in Lille, France on December 12, 1858, and died in Paris, France on August 28, 1914. In 1861, Villanis returned to Piedmont, Italy with his parents. In 1871, he entered the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin (l'Académie des Beaux-Arts Albertina) and studied under the sculptor Odoardo Tabacchi (1831-1905). In 1881, Villanis exhibited his works in Milan for the first time. In 1885, Villanis returned to Paris, France, and settled in Montmartre. Since then, the artist has created a series of paintings and sculptures on female themes, which bring together opera, literature, mythology and the Bible as well as oriental themes. The uniqueness of his works, the striking and highly decorative titles, the delicate lines, the rich use of various colors, etc. make him a unique representative of the Art Nouveau of this period. Between 1886 and 1910, his works were exhibited several times at the French Art Festival, and at the Paris World Expo in 1889 and the Chicago World Expo in 1903. His bronze works, due to the exquisite carving and the excellent quality of the raw copper, were cast by the Paris Bronze Society (Société des Bronzes de Paris) and were stamped with the mark of noble bronze sculptures.
