The Fabergé family originated in 17th-century France. Gustav Fabergé, born in 1814, moved to St. Petersburg, Russia, at the age of 16 and became a goldsmith. In 1842, Gustav Fabergé opened the Fabergé jewelry store in a basement on Bolshaya Morskaya Street in St. Petersburg. The accent mark in the brand's name was intended to convey a distinct French style and an air of luxury. In 1882, heir Peter Carl Fabergé gained the appreciation of the Russian Tsar for his Scythian Treasure collection of gold bracelets at the PanRussian Exhibition in Moscow, and Perer Carl Fabergé subsequently became the imperial goldsmith. This set of works was created in the late 19th century, and very few complete Fabergé sets in such excellent condition exist.
